Resolving Issues Collaboratively

We want to help you find the best solutions for your family as constructively as possible. Very few people want to apply to the Court and have the Court impose a solution on them.

Our Family Lawyers Nicola Codd and Barbara Richardson are collaboratively trained to work with colleagues and with you and your ex at meetings so that you can resolve the issues together by agreement.

Working collaboratively you talk about the things that matter most to you and your family and you have the opportunity to express your views and be heard. You each provide all relevant information and all legal advice is shared at the meetings. As far as possible sending letters backwards and forwards between solicitors is avoided.

To make sure that both solicitors and the couple are all absolutely committed to finding the best solutions by agreement Collaborative Solicitors sign an agreement with you which disqualifies them from representing you in Court if the collaborative process breaks down.

For the collaborative process to work for you, you need to be ready to talk and sometimes this can seem the hardest challenge of all. Your Lawyer and your ex’s Lawyer are there to help and support you both and can also recommend other professionals who can help you manage the emotional situation.

We also work closely with collaboratively trained independent financial advisers who can look at all the options for you and attend meetings to advise you both.
